As a result, social reform successes were limited primarily to those exhibiting visible political value by demonstrating the United States’ belief in equality and democracy to the rest of the world. Amidst the Cold War, the Soviet Union sought to propagate their authoritarian beliefs to democratic countries, frightening Americans who believed communist spies would infiltrate the U.S. government. Love Lost - Original Writing - 1023 Words

Love Lost There was never a creature more divine than he. His eyes were the kind that, with a single look, could force one to stop in the middle of a sentence and remain mesmerized. They were blue like the sky on a sunny day, but much more expressive. His hands were strong, but as they stroked my cheeks, I felt nothing except softness. Though his thick beard atop his intense jawline made him look rugged, his temperament was gentle. He told me he believed in love and Buddhism, but that was just the surface. I saw a man who appreciated art and the freedom to create his own path. He was also a man with a strong mind; he cared for debating politics, yet had the audacity to expose the shallowness of it all. He kept me on my toes and I loved†¦show more content†¦Maintaining my composure and flipping my long, red hair over my shoulder, I assured him, â€Å"Oh, no, you’re fine!† â€Å"Alright, good,† he shot me a dashing smile as he continued, â€Å"I wouldn’t want to have such a gorgeous girl upset with me.† He was extremely charming and the awkwardness of the accident died out fast. We discussed our lives and by the end of the night he had collected my number. For months that followed, we spent countless hours talking on the phone and spending time together; we were eventually inseparable. Without speaking a word of it, I fell in love with him and it was clear the feeling was mutual. The silence between us spoke volumes; we just understood. Our connection and our love was something that never needed to be talked about because, like the oxygen surrounding us, we just knew it was there. He knew everything about me and I thought I knew everything about him. That is, until he confessed his feelings toward another woman. Reality finally came crashing down: I was not the only victim to his spell. Mathias played me all along and I couldn’t bring myself to accept it. My feelings for him were even deeper than all of the late night conversations we shared. There would be no more laying on the rooftop of his apartment building while we mapped the stars. No more watching slightly unpleasant foreign films while we lounged around in bed and teased each other. I would no longer have the pleasure of spending my time
